State Migration Service of Turkmenistan is a government body capable of being regulated the migration system of Turkmenistan, the implementation of the state policy in the field of migration, adherence to international agreements of Turkmenistan on migration.
Service was created Presidential Decree of 21 February 2003 under the number 6133, which was the name of the State Service of Turkmenistan on registration of foreign citizens. In the service were assigned tasks such as check-in and departure of foreign nationals who arrived in Turkmenistan; keeping records of foreign nationals at the place of stay in the country; registration of foreign citizens visas for entry into and exit from Turkmenistan Turkmenistan residence in Turkmenistan, permits to work in the country.
Since 2004, the service began to perform functions relating to the registration at the State border entry and exit from the country of citizens of Turkmenistan; 2005 began keeping reception and preparation of documents for admission to citizenship of Turkmenistan, the recovery of Turkmen citizenship, renunciation of citizenship of Turkmenistan, as well as obtaining a permit for citizens of Turkmenistan for departure from Turkmenistan for permanent residence.
April 17, 2008 the name of the State Service for Registration of Foreign Citizens was renamed to the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan. Starting in July 2008, the Service has been assigned another function: decoration Turkmen citizens passports with biometric data.
